Olen Metsässä (“I am in the forest” in Finnish) is a sound performance based on the artist’s observation experimentations in the forest during a two-month residency in Finland (Kulttuurikauppila) from which she has just returned. No-input and field recordings are the raw materials for this audio work.
The principle of observation – intersecting here those of infiltration and surveillance – is not foreign to a certain form of communication. Observing also means connecting. From there, we are already in a process of transmission and information, in other words, of giving form – in this case a sound form – to what is initially perceived. Then from information to transformation, anything audible becomes possible – whether we are in the forest or elsewhere.
